- Get 1 bowl idli batter
- Prepare 1 pinch orange food colour
- Prepare 1 small bowl Thinly sliced onions
- Take 3-4 pieces Green chillies cut into julliens

- Take to taste Schezwan sauce
- Get 2 tbsp Red chili sauce
- Take 1 small bowl All purpose flour(maida) for batter

- Prepare 1/2 tbsp red chili powder
- Take 3 tbsp water for slurry

Chilli idli recipe is a delicious street style snack you can do with leftover idli. This spicy and crispy snack is all you need on a cold winter evening. Serve with coffee for that perfect evening snack. Chilli Idli recipe - Steam cooked rice cakes/Idli as we call it prepared with Indo- Chinese sauces for a perfect and quite different breakfast or dinner.
Steps to make Idli Chili:
- Make all the idlis from the idli batter first.
- Mix maida and water in a small bowl to form a semi thick batter. Add orange food colour to the batter to give the batter a nice orange colour.
- Now heat oil in a pan. Check that the oil should not be too hot.
- Cut idlis into wedges. Dip the idli wedges into the maida batter and deep fry till crispy.
- Do this with all the idli wedges.
- Now heat a pan. Take 3 tbsp oil. Add onions and saute till the onion turns transparent.
- Add green chillies, soya sauce, red chili sauce, salt, schezwan sauce, red chili powder, maggi masala and saute till the oil leaves the sides of the pan.
- Now take maida add water to it to form slurry.
- Add this maida slurry to the mixture.
- Now add the ready idli wedges and mix. Do not over cook the mixture.
- Serve with fresh coriander leaves and the mouth watering idli chili is ready.
I never tasted this before marriage. Chilli idli fry recipe is a merge of Indo-Chinese cuisine. Idli's are cut into cubes, deep fried in oil, tossed with onion, capsicum and some sauces. If you don't prefer deep frying, the idli's can be shallow fried. Batter fried idlis further tossed in ginger-garlic-capsicum mixture.
